FAQ's

How often should I get my chimney cleaned?

Your chimney should be checked once per year by a CSIA Certified Sweep.  This includes oil and gas heating systems that vent into your chimney.

Wood burning fireplaces & wood stoves should be checked once per year, or per cord of wood burned.

Our price for a cleaning is $250, and includes an inspection.  This is per flue-- many chimneys have 2 or more flues.

WHAT IS A CHIMNEY & WHAT IS A FLUE?

Your chimney may have more than 1 flue.  For example, you may have a furnace in the basement, and a fireplace in your living room, both of which use the same chimney, but each has its own separate flue.

Are you Insured and certified?

Our Sweeps are certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America.  We carry Liability Insurance, as well as Workman's Comp.

Do I need a Level I or Level II Chimney Inspection?

A Level I Inspection is a visual inspection of your chimney, which is included with a chimney cleaning.

A Level II Inspection includes a video scan of the interior of your chimney flue, as well as other pictures of the chimney, and is then emailed to you in a formal report.  Level II Inspections are often requested for Real Estate transactions, or when a new appliance (wood/ gas stove, gas logs, or furnace or water heater) is being installed.

repairs & liners

do i need a rain cap on my chimney?

Chimney caps help prevent water damage, prevent animals, leaves & debris from getting in, and prevent sparks from getting out onto your roof.  We recommend every flue have a stainless cap installed.

Prices for caps vary with sizes.  Different styles are available, as well as options for colors (powder-coating).  Copper caps are also available.

Why should I worry about the crown?

The crown of the chimney helps keep water & moisture out of the flue.   Cracked crowns lead to damage to the chimney, and water in the home.

We repair damaged and cracked chimney crowns with mortar and crown sealant.

do you offer free estimates?

We offer free estimates for specific work, such as installing stainless steel liners, or crown repairs.  If you are wanting to know the condition of your chimney, then we would schedule an inspection.
